His/The Otherworld

The otherworld changes and reflects each character? Shouldn't it remain as "his otherworld" instead of "the otherworld"? Flauros. 12:03, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

A good argument. To comply witht he style of the Wiki I've simply changed it to "Murphy's Otherworld". I think "The" and "His/Her" is pretty interchangable though, especially if you think of each game as being their own entity. Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 18:36, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

6 vs 8

The numbering of the game is understandably confusing. While the game presumably takes place after Homecoming, which would make it Silent Hill 6, the production order is Homecoming (SH5), Origins (SH6), and Shattered Memories (SH7). As the game has been officially labeled Silent Hill 8 by Konami, this is the number we'll go by until further notice. --Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 02:53, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Talk about boneheaded. I made a SH6 Era icon instead of 8. I'll rectify that later. Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 18:38, June 19, 2010 (UTC)

Teaser Variations

It's interesting that so far different descriptions of the teaser footage have been given. So far people have said that the mystery man has either been sitting on a bench, sitting on a bed, or standing in an open field. I wonder why the discrepancies. Intriguing. --Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 14:41, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

Does anyone know where I can find the trailer?Valtiel 17:19, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

As yet it's unreleased, as it was only a Konami press meeting to announce the project. E3 this year will likely reveal some images or footage that the public can access. Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 17:28, April 10, 2010 (UTC)

Mystery man? Sounds mysterious. Robert Orville Berkshire 01:39, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

Oh come on, they have to at least release it on PC...I hope this doesn't turn out like homecoming, i've never heard of Vatra Games in my life. Flauros. 04:17, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Again, there's no point in speculating what they will or won't do until E3 at the very least. If it's a "next-gen" console game like they insist on calling it, its possible they may go PC as well. Until then there's no point worrying about it. --Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 05:51, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Apparently Varta is actually made up of ex-2K developers, one has history with Climax and if you put the amount of games the devs made all together it would equal 52, these guys aint unexperienced, thats for sure, on the idea of a PC version, Vatra mentions that they are developing two big projects for a company, which is likely to be Konami, it says that both of these projects are coming out for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC Chewy2nd 22:08, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

Considering 2K's games, that's great news. Color me excited. Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 22:36, April 11, 2010 (UTC)

2K Czech though, which means the developers working on the new game have never worked on BioShock or Borderlands. =/ AlexShepherd 12:15, April 12, 2010 (UTC)

New Combat System

The game's producer and design director discussed "evolving our core combat in a logical direction"rather than skew toward two extremes: the absence of combat in entry Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and in the combat-heavy Silent Hill: Homecoming. HarryMason 04:01, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

I'm quite certain that they mentioned- not discussed- the "new" combat system. "New" is in quotes because I'm skeptical as to where else it could go; the earlier games had emphasis on escape but enough ammunition and melee items to open up a can of whoop-ass with. Here's to hoping we learn mooooooar soon. Robert Orville Berkshire 18:22, June 30, 2010 (UTC)

Interview found here

This game looks pretty awsome I am still working on the first Silent Hill.

Is Mira a...human?

Mira the shiba inu has never had a "decent" role before. If the name "Mira" is credited as making the screenplay of the Silent Hill 8 trailer, it could mean a human with the same name. It could be "Alex and Mary" again. Teslashark 18:37, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

Just something I've noticed, the woman on the bus right at the end looks quite like Helene from Silent Hill Past Life.

In a recent article of a magazine, the producers of SH: D confirm that the name of the "black fog creature" is "The Shade", and also reveal that some enemies can not be killed, only evaded (a return of the Ghosts?, as seen in the new trailer where an enemy is on the wall?).

Also, since im confused about the screamer, the witch or hag creature and the black fog creature, can someone give me a link to the screenshot where the "Black Fog Creature" is seen? thanks.

I was wondering what they were talking about as well. When I first heard that, it made me wonder for a second if the interviewee had let his mind slip into the Lost universe for a second. Btw, it's a good idea to sign your posts in talk pages by placing four tildes at the end of it (they'll turn into your username when you post). -- Shoggoth1890 19:01, June 6, 2011 (UTC)

On another monster note... It sounds like the entry for the "Raw Shock-like" monster may be referring to the Creeper. Want to check before I get rid of the redundant info though, to make sure I'm not mistaken. Anyone know of info showing they are two separate monsters? -- Shoggoth1890 08:05, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

I think its the same monster, not only because the face isnt seen very well means it doesnt have one. But, are they refering to the monster in the wall or the monster that is in that "little train" with you??, cause if its that second one, i think its the same as the Creeper and the Monsters that are in the Ceiling (also creepers). Bigsister 19:51, June 8, 2011 (UTC)

I recently uploaded a screenshot of the well-built man-like monster, but in dont think im good at uploading screenshots, so i think it didnt "saved" very well, so, if somebody can help...Bigsister 23:08, June 10, 2011 (UTC)

Moral System

Has anyone heard more about the decision/moral system? Will it be like Homecoming where two or three choices near the end of the game will make up the entirety of it, or will there be multiple instances throughout the entire game where it will come into play and make the replay value higher? Alkia 19:05, July 1, 2011 (UTC)

Well judjing by some minor discrepencies in previews like certain characters sitting, or standing in the same cutscenes from different sources makes it sound highly pervasive psych system. Which is just plain awesome sauce. Climax put a LOT of work into that and I'm glad to see its not simply being forgotten to the void of time.

I assume Konami retains rights to game scenario and program thus allowing the studio working on downpour a huge foundation to readily build upon.

Also Tom Huelets being brought along and he's demonstrated a strong knowledge of silent hill and its... chameleon like nature. I think including the player as a factor in silent hills invasion of reality is the best thing to happen to the series in a long time.

Downpour really has me intruiged, recent information is giving me far more hope than doubt. The non rusty hell otherworld makes me feel that shattered memories wasn't a fluke. Athat someone 'got it' and gave some power back to silent hill itself the REAL star of the series, instead of giving it to the cult and poor alessas constant torture.

Dont get me wrong, Iz love the rusty hell its iconic, and powerful. But its its constant use dilutes that bover time, and its been used a LOallsince 3 and I feel it deserves some time to rest and become lore for some time so when it returns it can have the impact it deserves. (I have this vision of alessas hell suddenly emerging and violently consuming someone elses weaker nightmare monsters even a boss and all)

Do you think that the game will be releshed in the PC or PSP. Not just Playstasion 3 or Xbox? XOXO Gossip Girl FAN 15:05, August 3, 2011 (UTC)

Well there is some circumstantial evidence that could be interpereted as pointing towards a pc release.. . But in my opinion a psp release just isnt practical or really possible with the severe difference in power between the platforms.Heck the psp couldn't even handle shattered memories and it was on wii. It was so graphically toned down that it broke the game in my and many others opinions, creating nonsensical cutscenes and pretty much ruining the otherworld, not jusy graphically but gameplay wise as well as the non transparent ice hid paths and monsters from view and shattered memories relied heavily on snap second judgements based off of taking in your environment in very quick glances.

On top of that the psyche profile variations were heavily downgraded likely because of the difference in storage capacity between dvd and umd, and very possibly cpu power and ram capacity speed and latency differences. In order for the game to be compatable with all psp platform itbwould only use 32 MB of ram, while the wii has 24 MB of 1tSram which is capable of outperforming much larger caches with its high speed and incredibly low latency, as well as 64 MB DDR3 which also outperforms the psps ram in speed and latency. The Xbox 360 has over 500 MB.

It just doesnt look to be in the cards for a system that cant even handle a wii port.

But the playstation vita? Thats a different story... Jungian-horror 10:04, August 11, 2011 (UTC)

Release Dates

The release dates currently posted on the page come from, which typically tends to be the most accurate in posting dates. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 09:16, September 21, 2011 (UTC)

I honestly believe there is a fallacy with the release date. It has been stated a few times, and more recently in the E3 demo which can be seen here that it is slated for a fall and as of recent winter release date. Amazon has been known to provide filler dates for the video games listed on their website that has yet to be released. Unless you have an official date from the developers, I would just leave it under TBD until an official announcement. Just thought I would bring this to your attention. Oh, and I was referencing the NA release date. GUT 22:09, September 26, 2011 (UTC)GUT

Sorry for this question here, but, can you save your progress WNENEVER YOU WANT?, or is it just auto-save?

Also, are there multiple save slots (if you can save when you want)? ... thanks. Bigsister 01:27, March 14, 2012 (UTC)

For what i've seen, there is only autosave :/ cant tell for sure. And the autosaves. They happen. A LOT.Aquilus758 01:29, March 14, 2012 (UTC)

OWWW... I hate autosave, specially because i LOVE to replay boss battles...i love bosses :D . Anyway, that way, it has more replay there a video of the UFO Ending? ... or the Surprise ending? (i relize that they are the same, and that it could not have UFOS, or it could have a different name...).

Well you are not gonna miss boss battles, since there are like 2 in total. And yes, they kinda force you to replay the game to gain different endings, no more good ol' saving before choices D: . And about the UFO ending, there are no videos yet. People seem to have a hard time getting other endings besides the good, bad and reversal. EDIT: here is a spoiler free guide to get all the endings Aquilus758 02:17, March 14, 2012 (UTC)

Surprise ending

Hello again.

And again, i just want to ask one question: how can you start a new game to play the digging up the past side quest?

I have defeated Cunningham, i have seen the ending, and now i want to replay the game, BUT in a "new game +" (i know it doesnt exist in the game).

What i mean is: Do you have to select the "New Game" option in the Main Menu, go through Devil's Pit, and then in the town, make the side quest? ... i ask this because i have seen on the internet that not much people gain acces to that quest after starting a new you only have to put the new game option, or do you have to do something more to start a new game +?

There is no New Game+ option, just start a new game and the sidequest will be available.Aquilus758 00:57, March 20, 2012 (UTC)

prisoner Clothes

Hello again. Some questions here:

-First of all, has anyone here or in other place ever attempted to play through the game (until overlook) with the prisoner outfit? because i didnt know that it was ACTUALLY possible, so, does anything "extra" happens? (like in the cunningham cutscene in devil's pit, where he says that he found the police insignia in THESE clothes...maybe he changes the dialogue a little?).

Also regarding the prison outfit: was it the outfit that murphy was wearing during the aristocrat boss fight in the early gamestop canada trailer? because it was, i dont think that battle took place at overlook.

So, where do you think that the aristocrat was fightable at some point during the development of the game?

Murphy's cell

The number of his cell at the beginning of the game is 302B. Could this be a nod to SH4? Since I don't believe in coincidences :P --Lady ligeia 19:36, April 9, 2012 (UTC)

The Reception of Downpour

The Reception

I know that fans have enjoyed Downpour considerably more than the professional critics did, but did they really enjoy it that much more? Calling it the greatest game since SH2? (Better than SH3?) Saying Murphy is the greatest, most-developed Silent Hill protagonist? I loved Downpour, but this whole bottom section reeks of somebody trying to make up for the disappointing critical reception by hyperboling fan reaction. JoshuaShepherd 01:36, April 28, 2012 (UTC)

People are saying it's the best SH2? I wholeheartidly disagree. While I was disappointed with Origins and Homecoming, I'm glad that Downpour (in my opinion) was better. I did enjoy Shattered Memories though, for the soul purpose of the amazing plot twist of an ending. I would agree that Murphy is one of my more favorite protagonists though, simply for the emotion he displays compared to other protagonists and his demeanor. There were good things about Downpour, and some god awful things about Downpour. I would agree with critics (and yourself) by saying that it certainly doesn't rank as high as the original 3 games.

Nixerix 10:24, May 15, 2012 (UTC)

It was difficult. But could be malicious at times. The characters were interesting and the gameplay was good enough. I'm not picky, but I'm also not agreeing that it was the "best" or the "worst." I liked it. But then again, I'm not picky. Scarlet Fitch 20:03, May 24, 2012 (UTC)

I didn't make that up when I said it was called (key word) the best since SH2... I saw a couple fan site reviews that said so. Guess I have to go dig em up again? SiL3NT KNiGHT 99 23:31, May 24, 2012 (UTC)

Okay I found the review, but the exact statement (SH>SH2>SHD) isn't in this certain article. She does say however that it's in her top 3 at the end, hinting at the same thing. [1]

Ps3 release date

Did Downpour get released just for the X Box first then released later for the Ps3 or where released at the same time. cause if its the latter Im gonna be super pissed Mister 83 20:09, June 3, 2012 (UTC)

Cigarette packs

There are a lot of highlighted cigarette packs scattered all over the game, standing out like if they were a grab-able item. I thought there was a hidden meaning (in my first gameplay I felt like they were a sign that Mr. Wheelchair had been around...) but I've read in some page that it's a reference to the SH:SM memento "Hidden fire", and the "Hemingway" cigarettes of the advertisement seen in SH:O. Could it be? --Lady ligeia (talk) 21:55, September 23, 2012 (UTC)
