Kenzie LaMar's Artwork

I just received a note back from Kenzie LaMar, one of the character and creature designers who worked on Silent Hill: Homecoming, kindly granting us permission to upload his conceptual designs and models for use on our Wiki, so I'll be working on that today. His work is really detailed, so if you're a fan of his work in the game, you can see them on his Deviant Art account. http://hedrus.deviantart.com/ He also said he'd check out our Wiki! Thanks Mr. LaMar! --Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 20:25, September 30, 2009 (UTC)

Silent Hill Font

Just thought people might find this useful. http://www.dafont.com/silent-hill.font I'm testing it out on the icons right now. --Faded-Myth 00:55, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

 ???

I read it but I am still confused, not at the artical, I am confused at what the Otherworld would be like for my character, she killed her husband like James did Mary, but not by suffication she stabbed him to death, but she wants no one to know about, what would the otherworld look like to her. would it be liek corpses with blood al over the blankets and stuff, but is that all there is too it, and what is that yellow stuff under the floor is it fire from hell or what?

Oh Jeebus. My identity as a helper is conflicting with my identity as an artist. The best advice I can offer to you is this: wing it. Make shit up and connect it. As you write, or whatever medium you're using (I forgot :D ), add more references and symbolism, of varying subtlety. The idea of bleeding corpses is good for the symbolism, but fans of Silent Hill won't think it odd or specific to your tale; they're everywhere in the series. But why not have many knives? Perhaps add references to whatever caused the woman to murder her husband? Gaaaaaaaah. I can't even help you. Robert Orville Berkshire 03:52, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

New Infobox Templates

Should templates be made for the monsters? AlessaGillespie 02:00, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

I've been thinking of that ever since I first joined this Wiki. I'm going to be busy enough with the new Era icons, so I'll leave that to someone else. ;) --Faded-Myth 02:07, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Have anything in mind, Alessa? --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 02:09, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Does this template look good? AlessaGillespie 02:47, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
(monster name)
(image caption)
Other Names
{{{other names}}}
Debut
(Game or media monster debuted in)
Other Appearances
{{{other appearances}}}
Health
(monsters resilience to damage)
Locations
(buildings/areas of game it appears in)
Weapons

Method of Attack
(method of attack)

Honestly, you need more practice on HTML coding. Anyways, I was thinking of making it. How about suggestions for its color scheme and layout? 050294 03:14, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
It's the exact same as every other infobox on this site except the movies one, I made sure of that. AlessaGillespie 03:47, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Nice try Alessa, always appreciated. Now, this may sound silly, but how does one determine a monster's health in Silent Hill? --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 11:18, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
I assumed the games guides probably gave good indicators of the general health (how long it takes to kill, how tough they area) of the monsters. AlessaGillespie 00:21, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
'Splains my ignorance, there. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 00:27, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
I know it's a little odd, but how about a building templates? In these templates can be amount of floors, games the building's appeared in, etc. Anyone think this is ok? 050294 01:46, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
It could work...I know (and forgive the example, if it isn't to your liking) that Bulbapedia has such a template for the various towns in the Pokemon games. Unless anyone can think of a reason not to, I see no problem with the idea (it's always worth a shot, anyway).
So, for parameters (and these are only example);
  • Picture (exterior shot, if possible)
  • Building Name
  • No. of floors
  • Location (Street(s) it's on, Area of town it's in, Town it's in)
  • Enemies (If any)
  • Bosses (If any)
  • Items (Names and amount, if applicable)
  • Any keys needed to enter
The one thing we wanna avoid is redundancy. If the template can be done in a way that avoids that problem, it sounds alright to me. Bulbapedia's template is the best example I have off of the top of my head. If anyone can think of other examples, feel free to share. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 02:00, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Honestly, I think building templates are a good idea. AlessaGillespie 02:12, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm on it! Expect it in a minute :D 050294 02:19, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
A building template....sounds a bit much, especially with those parameters. But what do I know. I guess I'll wait till it's done before writing any building articles.--Butterscotchboy 02:34, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
The parameters were only examples. I'll leave what's included up to 050294's discretion. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 02:41, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Building's name.
Image caption.
Location

Key(s)
Key(s).
Floors
Number of floors.
Boss(es)
Bosses (if any).
Appearances

Well? How is it? I thought of simple, yet practical. I believe items and monsters in the building could be on the article itself, as it would take up a LOT of room for some buildings. I did keep bosses, however. 050294 03:15, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Fixed minor errors. 050294 03:20, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
The green didn't work well with the skin we use, but a welcome addition to the wiki. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 03:44, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
I thought green would suit the template, but ok. Anyways, I want it a different color, any suggestions?
I thought the green was quite festive :D. But, yea, it didn't suit the background. How about a pale brown, or tan-ish color? And yea, listing monsters and items would be too much to put on a template. --Butterscotchboy 03:56, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Keys

Just a quick question; do keys need to be categorized under items when "Keys" is already a subcategory of items? Same with era icons, should the items and keys icons both apply?--Butterscotchboy 18:36, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

Seems a bit redundant, no? Feel free to remove item icons and categories if you'd like. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 01:17, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Links in templates

Should links to other pages be put in templates? I personally think it's less cluttered if they're left on the regular summary and not the infobox. Some of these pages can be linked to two or three times in one page if a link is put in the infobox. AlessaGillespie 03:58, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

I agree, especially since it also means less typing. If it's not linked in the summary though, (which is pretty rare) then I guess it should be linked in the template. At least that's what I'll do from now on.--バタースコッチ君Butterscotchboy|Talk 06:19, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Honestly, even without templates, I'm seeing double and triple linking to the same pages on literally every single page. I've ever seen a couple of pages with links that linked to the page the link was on. I think some of these pages need cleanup on that. AlessaGillespie 06:27, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Apologies in advance, since I know that kind of thing can be found on some pages I've made. I don't think I've ever looped to the same article though, haha. I'll go back to some pages and clear extra linkings to help with cleanup--バタースコッチ君Butterscotchboy|Talk 07:08, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Well...missed this convo. I've been putting links in infoboxes and removing any doubles from articles. (grumble) --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 15:51, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Wait, so is it preferable to have the links in the infoboxes or in the actual content? --バタースコッチ君Butterscotchboy|Talk 19:05, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
I...hadn't put much thought into that. Each way has its benefits. If we link to pages that can be linked to through the infobox, its better because the infobox is at the top of an article and is, by its nature, an eyecatcher. But, by linking to pages through article content, it compels folks to read an article if they are looking for a certain link. I'm fine either way, though. --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 11:42, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
While I'm also against multiple links in one article, I personally don't have an issue with links in Infoboxes appearing again in the main body of the article. Sometimes it's handy when you're going from one to the other, and can click either link. But that's just me. --Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 17:48, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Umm, Okay. Thanks for the input guys; from now on I'll be linking mainly in the content, but if there's a change of plans just let me know. The links usually appear near the top of the page anyways, especially in items and most other articles that require the infoboxes, so it's pretty much a combination of both benefits. I'll also go back to some articles and take away links that appear in the infoboxes when their already in the article, to keep articles consistent. But...stop me if I don't need to.
ALSO, and this isn't related to the discussion, if you guys want your sigs to appear without filling the edit box with HTML formatting, you can create a User:YOURUSERNAME/autosig page, put {{User:YOURUSERNAME/sig}} in it and put the autosig page in the custom signature space in Preferences. That way, every time you sign with the tildes the system inserts the template for your sig instead of the actual formatting text. --バタースコッチ君Butterscotchboy|Talk 23:35, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Oh neato potato. That's very useful, and keeps edits clean. Thanks mate. --Faded-Myth Discuss My Workload 23:44, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

Quotes Pages

I've noticed that Wikipedia has pages for quotes, so I was wondering if we might do it here too. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 06:23, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

If a character has a goodly amount of memorable quotes, I see no reason not to do so, since it'll prevent the character's page from becoming cluttered. Other opinions? --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 11:37, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Are you saying Henry can't have a page? :P Though I find 'Are you alright?!?' when spoken to a nearly dead woman to be quite memorable. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 05:37, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh Henry, your vacant expression at epileptic abortions and spying on your hot neighbor through a hole in the wall... it makes me smile so. Actually come to think of it, if we made a quotes page, would Heather saying sexy beam during her attacks count as a quote? These are the things that keep me up at night --Henry-Townshend 05:45, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Image uploading

I suspect this problem may only be on my computer, as I've also been unable to get several applications including my email to open in a couple of days now, but is anyone else having an issue with the image uploader? I click the Submit button and the source filename disappears and it doesn't upload. *is confused* AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 03:56, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

I just tried to upload an image, and it didn't go through either. Maybe the wiki does have a problem. But then again, Butterscotchboy was able to upload the Chain.jpg file, (I think that's what it was called). --Henry-Townshend 05:28, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I'm currently able to upload images, but at least once a day the wiki does get all wonky. I always chalk it up to a bad connection, or a problem with the main server (Sometimes instead of loading the main page, I get a page that says "Silent Hill Wiki is having problems, we'll be back to you shortly," or something along those lines). I just wait a couple of minutes and that usually does the trick. Has this been a frequent problem? --バタースコッチ君Butterscotchboy|Talk 05:50, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
No, this is the only time this has happened. I guess it's not just my computer since Henry says he was having problems too, which is kinda good to know. Now I can just blame FarmVille and my email on the computer... AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 06:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Spotlight

Congrats to everyone who helped us reach Spotlight status! (and that's a lot of you, anon and named) AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 02:32, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

Eileen Galvin

Can we attach a note at the top of the Eileen Galvin page asking people not to post Heather Morris as her voiceactor and reminding them that they need direct evidence to prove it (as in, not IMDb)? It's getting rather irritating having to constantly revert peoples' edits because they "saw it on IMDb". AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 02:41, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Questions about Movie Edits

As I posted in the forum, I recently came across an older version of the script for the movie, which contained a different plot and scenes that never made it into the final movie. Some of these things very clearly contradict the final script, and I'm not worried about those things. My question is about the little things that don't contradict anything in the movie and may very well be true tidbits that just never made it to the big screen. For example, the script mentions that Rose's parents died in a car crash and that Chris works at the university. It is also mentioned that Christabella is headmistress of Midwich, which is hinted at in the film (Christabella is at the school during school hours and her outfit is the same as the childrens' uniforms), but never outright stated. Should these things that make no contradiction to the final version of the movie be added to the character pages? AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 05:47, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

I don't see a problem, as long as the script is cited. Any objections/concurrences? --TheGoodMan Converse Workload 14:49, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

Changing the featured video ?

How do i change the featured vid i have a better one.

Upload the video and run it by the regular users, so a decision can be made on that. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 03:53, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Ok.

First and foremost, the video has to be about Silent Hill. Second, I told you to upload it, not post it on the Main Page. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 04:08, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

So i can put anything aslong as it's silent hill related eh?

I warned you. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 04:29, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

Helping out the wiki

Due to another spate of vandalism last night that came to almost 500 edits, I'm asking anyone who sees a page that might have been missed in the cleanup to please go ahead and fix it. I'm pretty sure Final Blaster and I got it all, but with so many edits, I worry something may have slipped through the cracks. Thanks guys! AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 10:12, September 10, 2009 (UTC)

What is with the recent string of vandalism? It's like every day there's some wannabe vigilante thinking they're making an impact...--バタースコッチ君Butterscotchboy|Talk 05:23, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
It's the same person doing all of it. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 05:26, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
That sounds really pathetic :( --バタースコッチ君Butterscotchboy|Talk 06:03, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
It is. AlessaGillespie Talk Contributions 06:26, September 16, 2009 (UTC)
