This article is for the Silent Hill: Downpour song. For the song in the first Silent Hill, see Silent Hill (Akira Yamaoka song).

Silent Hill is a song from Silent Hill: Downpour and is track 1 of the Downpour soundtrack. It was composed by Jonathan Davis of Korn.

It is the main theme of the game, heard at the main menu if left idle and in the end credits. It played in the TGS 2011 trailer of Downpour and credited Korn as the composers, although Jonathan Davis was credited as the song's writer and performer on the soundtrack's track listing. The trailer version has slightly different lyrics than the soundtrack version.

Unofficial soundtrack lyrics

I start to search all the dark places that I have found
All the deep creases in my mind that are torn up somehow

I want to keep the pace
I want to figure it out
I've got to do it this way
If I don't, everything stops

Have you ever really noticed the blanket of shame
From the torment and pain?
As you realize that no one's ever been there
Have you ever looked at the violence you hide?
Always running inside
You can't escape, it's always been there

I tear a hole inside my head to let the demons go
I cut my flesh to purge the hatred from so long ago

I want to keep the pace
I want to figure it out
I've got to do it this way
If I don't, everything stops

Have you ever really noticed the blanket of shame?
From the torment and pain
As you realize that no one's ever been there
Have you ever looked at the violence you hide?
Always running inside
You can't escape, it's always been there

Close my eyes, I go to sleep
It's always there, I start to weep [X8] (Come along) (burning me) (All alone)

Have you ever really noticed the blanket of shame?
From the torment and pain
As you realize that no one's ever been there
Have you ever looked at the violence you hide?
Always running inside
You can't escape, it's always been there

Trailer version.

I start to search all the dark places that I have found
All the deep creases in my mind that are torn up somehow

I want to keep the pace
I want to figure it out
I've got to do it this way
If I don't, everything stops

From the torment and pain?
As you realize that no one's ever been there
Have you ever looked at the violence you hide?
Always running inside
You can't escape, it's always been there

Consumed by hatred in my nightmare
There is no letting go
It eats me up
There's no way out
I've got to make it so

I want to keep the pace
I want to figure it out
I've got to do it this way
If I don't, everything stops

Have you ever really noticed the blanket of shame?
From the torment and pain
As you realize that no one's ever been there
Have you ever looked at the violence you hide?
Always running inside
You can't escape, it's always been there

Close my eyes, I go to sleep
He's always there, I start to weep [X8]

Have you ever really noticed the blanket of shame?
From the torment and pain
As you realize that no one's ever been there
Have you ever looked at the violence you hide?
Always running inside
You can't escape, it's always been there

Symbolism

The song could be describing Murphy Pendleton's personality and all the anger, pain, guilt, shame, and violence he is repressing inside himself. Those emotions are slowly tearing him apart, making him desperately want to escape from both it and himself.
