Monster Cybil (known more accurately as Parasitic Host Cybil) is a major boss in Silent Hill.

Cybil Bennett becomes host to the same kind of parasite that infected the Puppet Nurses and Puppet Doctors. Cybil appears in Lakeside Amusement Park's merry-go-round, sitting in a wheelchair, but stands up when Harry Mason enters. Killing her will result in the Good or Bad ending, while saving her will award the player with the Good+ or Bad+ ending.

Appearance[]

Cybil looks almost exactly like herself, only she has red eyes and walks with a hunched back.

Character[]

Cybil walks slowly after Harry. She is capable of shooting him with a handgun that will instantly take the player's health to red, showing that she is very dangerous. She will also pistol whip Harry if he gets too close. Once she runs out of ammo, she will then put down her gun and walk to Harry in an attempt to strangle him.

There are two ways to defeat her: the first is to kill her normally, or the player can instantly use the bottle of red liquid found in Alchemilla Hospital to exorcise the parasite inside of her.

Strategy[]

First phase[]

Silent Hill - Monster Cybil fight 4

The start of phase one.

The fight begins with Cybil standing directly opposite of Harry. At the start of the fight, Cybil's health is at 4,000 pts., similar to the Twinfeeler and Floatstinger bosses.

If a considerable amount of distance is created between her and player, she will fire her gun, dealing a heavy blow to Harry's health and incapacitating him for several seconds. If the player has low health prior to this or fails to heal fully before the next shot, Harry will die.

If the player is too close, she will smack Harry for a lesser amount of damage or strangle him, causing gradual damage for each second the attack persists.

If Cybil is out of sight for too long, the merry-go-round will begin to operate and she will re-emerge riding one of the horses. This is the best opportunity to fire at her.

Staying close to Cybil will trigger her melee attacks, lessening the chance of her using her gun. This allows the player to use a weapon such as the hammer or axe instead.

However, the best strategy is to get her to run out of ammunition. Cybil will fire 10 bullets at Harry before dropping her gun. To avoid Cybil's fire, strafe left or right, or run around her in a circular motion.

Second phase[]

Silent Hill - Monster Cybil drops her gun

Cybil drops her gun, starting phase two.

After exhausting all of her ammo or taking 2,000 points of damage (half of her health), Cybil drops her gun and initiates the second phase of the battle. She only uses melee attacks from this point forward.

Cybil's smacks are nearly twice as strong, cutting down approximately 1/4th of Harry's max health each hit. This greatly increases the difficulty of using melee weapons.

Using a firearm such as the handgun or shotgun will allow the player to shoot and walk backwards at the same time. If Harry gets caught on a horse while walking backwards, turn around and move further down the carousel. Because Cybil walks faster than Harry walking backwards, it is recommended to turn around and leave more distance between Harry and Cybil when she comes too close. To quick-turn, press the L1 and R1 buttons at the same time.

Once Cybil has accumulated 4,000 points of damage, she will die. This instantly triggers a full-motion video cutscene where she falls to the ground and squirms in pain as she bleeds violently from all over her face. Harry then kneels down in sadness and frustration.

Saving Cybil[]

Silent Hill - Monster Cybil saved 2

The parasite leaving Cybil's body.

If the player has managed to obtain the plastic bottle from Alchemilla Hospital and fill it with the unknown liquid, it can be used on Cybil at any point during the fight. However, it can only be used within close proximity.

The best opportunity to use the liquid is at the very beginning of the fight before she can attack, while she is sat on one of the carousel horses, or during the second phase while she is approaching Harry.

Once it is used successfully, a cutscene will trigger where Cybil collapses and is rid of the parasite.

Larval Stalker glitch[]

The battle with Cybil can be avoided entirely by exploiting a glitch found in the amusement park. This glitch will also spare Cybil.

To activate the glitch, the player must use the unknown liquid on any Larval Stalker roaming the park grounds prior to entering the merry-go-round. After doing so, a broken cutscene will trigger and the game will resume as usual.

Trivia[]

  • Play Novel: Silent Hill implies that Cybil was conscious during her possession. When Cybil is about to shoot Harry, he says that he could see that her eyes were full of tears. It's also mentioned that Harry conceived the idea of using Aglaophotis due to her red eyes reminding him of the liquid.
  • Unlike the Puppet Nurses and Puppet Doctors, Cybil lacks the towering, parasitic growth on her back, likely because she was only recently infected.
