Martin Donovan is an American actor, writer, and director best known for appearing in Weeds, The Portrait of a Lady and The Haunting in Conneticut.
He portrayed Douglas Cartland in Silent Hill: Revelation.
Career and life[]
Martin Donovan was born in Reseda, California on August 19th, 1957. Donovan was one of three other siblings, all whom were raised to be Catholic. After Martin graduated from Crespi Carmelite High School, he attended Pierce College for two years. He soon attended American Theathre Arts, where he appeared in the plays Richard's Cork Leg and Private Life of the Master Race. In 1993, he and his wife moved to New York City, taking odd jobs like installing drapery to support his family. He later joined the Cucaracha Theater on Greenwich Street.
Martin Donovan has appeared in fourteen episodes of the Showtime television series, Weeds. He has also acted with Parker in Saved! Pipe Dream, and The Portrait of a Lady. In 2010, Donovan wrote, directed and starred in Collaborator, portraying a once-successful playwright who is taken hostage while visiting his mother and childhood home. Other recent film appearances include The United States of Leland, The Opposite of Sex, Living Out Loud, In a Savage Land, Onegin, Heaven, Hollow Reed, and Nadja.
He has won a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by An Ensemble in a Comedy Series for Weeds. He has also won the National Society of Film Critic's Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Portrait of A Lady.
Donovan married actress Vivian Lanko in 1984. They have two sons and currently live in Vancouver, Canada.
