Konami Code - 01

The Konami Code is a cheat code commonly found in games released by Konami. It consists of 10 buttons which must be pressed in a sequence in order to unlock a secret specific to the game. The code was originally created by Kazuhisa Hashimoto and was first implemented for use with the game Gradius in 1986, and started to gain popularity since Contra. It has since then appeared as an easter egg in many games, some of which aren't released by Konami. In the first instances it was used, the Konami Code consisted of pressing ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A. Different games and systems have modified the code to some degree, however the buttons are usually kept similar in order and orientation.

Some games of the Silent Hill franchise have employed the use of the code in unlocking a hidden easter egg. In all instances, the Konami Code unlocks an alternate costume for a male character.

Silent Hill 3[]

SH3 - Douglas (Konami Code)

Douglas in boxers

In Silent Hill 3, Douglas Cartland's alternate costume is unlocked after completing the game once, and entering the Konami code in the title screen while highlighting the "Extra New Game" option.

The code used for this game is: ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → Circle button X button for the PlayStation 2 version, and: w, w, s, s, q, e, q, e, esc, enter for the PC version.

Correct entry of the code will trigger a "sigh" as soon as the game difficulties are selected. The effect of the code gives Douglas a more risqué version of his usual outfit, with the inner shirt and pants completely absent.

Silent Hill: Origins[]

Travis-CB

Travis as Vincent

The code makes a reappearance in Silent Hill: Origins, used as a code to unlock an alternative costume for Travis Grady. After completing the game at least once, the code can be entered to unlock Travis' "Codebreaker" accolade.

The code used in this game is ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → X button Circle button in both the PSP and PlayStation 2 versions.

The costume is a homage to Vincent Smith from Silent Hill 3, as it is similar in appearance to his brown vest and slacks.

Silent Hill: Homecoming[]

Young Alex

In Silent Hill: Homecoming the Konami code can be used without having to finish the game. The code must be entered in the game's title menu, without having pressed start.

In the PlayStation 3 version of the game the code is: ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → X button Circle button.

In the Xbox 360 version of the game the code is: Xbox Up button Xbox Up button Xbox Down button Xbox Down button Xbox Left button Xbox Right button Xbox Left button Xbox Right button A button B button.

In the PC version of the game the code is: UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, ESC, ENTER. It must be made using the arrows, not W,A,S,D.

After correctly entering the code, a sound should be heard indicating it has worked. The code unlocks one of Alex Shepherd's alternate costumes, accessible after selecting a new game. The costume is titled "Young Alex" and is the outfit that he is seen wearing in flashbacks.

Silent Hill: Book of Memories[]

At the starting screen main menu, the bedroom, enter the Konami Code (Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square, Triangle, Start) to receive a free Robbie Doll weapon as well as enable the sale of Robbie Dolls at the shop. A child's laughter will be heard to indicate the code has been entered correctly. The player will need to input the code each time they load up their character. If the player reloads their character, they can re-use the Konami Code to continuously get more free Robbie Dolls.
