Silent Hill: Downpour
In Downpour, the Hammer is wielded by the giant and foreboding Bogeyman. The Bogeyman uses this lethal weapon to swing at Murphy, and kill him almost instantaneously. The Bogeyman always appears with his hammer and it is his signature weapon.
In a cutscene during his confrontation with the Bogeyman, Murphy Pendleton uses the hammer to land the finishing blow on the monster.
At the end of the game, Murphy Pendleton transforms into the Bogeyman, being the first ever person to do so canonically. As the Bogeyman, he can swing the Hammer in wide arcs that devastates enemies, killing Prisoner Juggernauts with one swing and killing Anne Marie Cunningham in two. Unlike other weapons in the game, the Hammer is indestructible and will never break. It is one of the five weapons the player must use to complete the game, along with the Plank, Ladder Hook, Knife, and Fire Axe.
Silent Hill: Book of Memories
The Bogeyman's Hammer appears in Silent Hill: Book of Memories as a weapon.
- Ironically, just like Travis Grady and the Great Cleaver in Silent Hill: Origins, Murphy has no trouble wielding the Great Hammer when he kills the Bogeyman. This may be a sign of inner strength, a technical error or intentional joke.
- The handle of the Hammer is the exact same shape and size as the many fire axes that Murphy can find, hidden throughout the town.
- The Hammer is the third weapon to be wielded formerly by a monster (Pyramid Head and the Butcher) and then wielded by a protagonist (James Sunderland and Travis Grady).
- As in Origins, Murphy uses the Hammer to kill the Bogeyman, much like Travis uses the Great Cleaver to kill the Butcher.
