The only clue given is to release the ashes in the deceased person's "special place". In the first floor of the house there is an photo of a bench located on a pier with the words "Our Favorite Place" written on it. Murphy Pendleton comments that it must be a special place to someone.
The bench is located on a pier behind the house that must be accessed from a gate down the street, as the back door of the house has been blocked off. Once located, the player must use the urn to spread the ashes. They reveal a combination of numbers etched in the bench. The combination is to used in order to solve the Pleasant River Safe Puzzle; however, this puzzle does not have to be solved to complete the quest.
- Completing the sidequest unlocks the achievement/trophy, "Dust to Dust."
- The "Special place" term could be a reference to Mary Shepherd-Sunderland and indirectly Rosewater Park.
- In Patrick Wearden's house, Murphy dies by simply looking too long at the books showing children's drawings, which are found on the couch in the living room. If the player presses "zoom" and looks closely at the books for about ten seconds and then try to move on, Murphy dies from a heart attack.
